Houston, TX – Eleven St. Agnes Academy students have been chosen for the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) Region 3 Choir. Selected were sopranos Erin Miller, Ngoc-Han Nguyen, Andrea Miranda, Madeline McAllister, Audrey Welsh, Madeline Delgado and Anna Lee Carothers. Altos chosen include Madeline Garvis, Shannon Lewis, Carolina Wood and Amanda Bernardy. They will advance to the competition for the TPSMEA All-State choir, to be held on October 31.
TPSMEA was founded to provide a state-wide organization specifically focused on the needs of private and parochial school music educators and students. The activities and organizations of TPSMEA are designed to enhance and promote the teaching of music by providing appropriate opportunities for enrichment and achievement.
In addition, four St. Agnes/Strake Jesuit College Preparatory students were selected to the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) 2013 All Region 23 Orchestra. The All-Region Orchestra members were Antonia Iyer-cello, Amarillys Fernandes-violin, Agnes Budhijantho-violin, and Matthew Lai-violin. The All-Region performers were selected by audition from a pool of 20+ public and private high school music programs. The All-Region Orchestra will perform at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas.
Begun in 1920 as the Texas Band Teachers Association, TMEA is an organization of over 10,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. TMEA is comprised of five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary and College.
